“Wouldn’t you rather your kid be a drug dealer than a drug addict?” asked director John Waters, clad in black slacks and a dark blue blazer with four holes revealing patches of his pastel blue shirt. Mismatched, but that’s the beauty of the trashy pope, who shared his secrets in love, happiness and the pursuit of all things perverse.

Waters helped kick off the second, and slightly cooler, day at Coachella, but the perversity came full circle towards the evening. “Are you all still horny,” asked Faith No More’s Mike Patton to a sea of heads near the main stage. The band, which recently reunited opened aptly with the Peaches and Herb classic “Reunited.” Patton, blinged out in a red suit and cane later told the audience “we’re not that old.” Half way into an 11-song set, Patton opened the gates and walked into the audience and crowd surfed during Jackson 5 tribute “Ben.” The band crooned out “Epic,” “Surprise You’re Dead” and “Midlife Crisis.”

A fuller schedule despite artist cancellations due to the Reykjavik volcano, there were few gaps. (Gary Numan, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Talvin Singh have also officially cancelled their appearances for Sunday.) Read entire story
