Coachella: Day 3, NY Press

Iceland’s Eyjafallajokul volcano, which erupted for the first time in 190 years, kept some artists from flying to Coachella but didn’t slow the festival down much. Despite the occasional bare stage and some shifted sets (French singer Yann Tiersen grabbed Gary Numan’s earlier slot), the Empire Polo grounds pumped for one last day on Sunday.

London’s One EskimO kicked off the final day to a busy crowd in the Gobi tent. The band, which was grateful to made it to California before the flight cancellations, officially kicked off a U.S. tour with a dreamy set in the desert. “Coachella is like the icing on this tour,” said guitarist Pete Rinaldi later in the afternoon. The set usually complements their album and its vision, vocalist’s Kristian Leontiou’s idea of being an eskimo, the isolation, with animation and acoustic elements, according to Rinaldi.
