The Young Veins Don’t Panic at Irving Plaza, NY Press

Far removed from their arena-rock shows as one-half (the guitar-vocal half) of Panic! at the Disco, Jon Walker and Ryan Ross brought a completely different vibe to Irving Plaza Wednesday night with new band The Young Veins. Smartly dressed, gentlemanly and genuinely happy to be there, the former Vegas, Disco boys—now located just across the borders in California—premiered to a packed Irving Plaza Wednesday night.

Not shy of large crowds, Walker and Ross now open for bands, play small- or medium-sized gigs and coffee shops—in fact, it’s all they’ve been doing since they decided to part ways with their Panic! cohorts last summer. Dressed more like The Animals and sounding more like The Knack, the quintet made up of drummer Nick Murray and keyboardist Nick White along with Walker’s high school friend Andy Soukal, relied more on their chops than any flash or brigades of electro lights.
